A. The application form for the OCI card needs to be filled online on website

        https://passport.gov.in/oci/

Please read Instruction carefully before filling up the form.  All applicants are requested to strictly follow the procedure mentioned below for processing of applications for registration as OCI cardholder and for OCI Miscellaneous services :-

1) The applicants may submit the application form online and upload the self-attested photocopies of all the requisite supporting documents, photograph and signature (in case of minors who cannot sign, left hand thumb impression) along with the application. For minors, the Parent must self attest the documents, otherwise application will not be accepted. (Please upload the following self-attested copy of serial Nos.1 (a & b).

(a)  Swiss/Foreign Passport. (upload the self-attested copy)

(b)  Surrendered/cancelled Indian passport. (upload the self-attested front and back page details copy)

Please note:-

i. It is mandatory to upload Applicant's photo image and signature image during OCI-Registration.

ii. Both the images must be in jpeg or jpg format, with max. size 200 KB.

Kindly be ready with both these images before starting the registration process.

It is also mandatory to upload separately the self-attested photocopies of all the requisite supporting documents during OCI-Registration.

(i) Maximum size allowed for a document-file is 1000 KB.

(ii) Document file should be in pdf format.

2) After the applicant submits the complete application online including self-attested documents, photograph and signature, the originals of the documents and the application form along with self-attested document copies have to be submitted to the Embassy for prior verification.

(i) A copy of Declaration of Renunciation of Indian Citizenship (or) Surrender Certificate  of Indian passport.

(ii) A copy of Swiss Residence Permit with residential address.

(iii) A copy of Naturalization certificate (Einbürgerungsurkunde (or) Bürgerrechtsnachweis).

(iv) A person who has attained the age of 18 years and above must enclose Original of "No Criminal Record Certificate"issued by the Federal Office of Justice. (Auszug aus dem Schweizerischen Strafregister).

3) If there is any deficiency in the application / uploaded documents / photograph, the Embassy shall inform the same to the applicant.

4) Enclose one self-addressed and stamped registered envelope (CHF.6.30) to return the original documents.

Affix properly the recent good quality colour photograph (50x50mm with 80% coverage of face) in the box provided in the application form and attach one additional same sized photograph. It should have plain light colour background without border with front view of person’s head and shoulders showing the full face in the middle of the photograph.  The photo should not be stapled and should not have any signature.

In case of minor who has acquired the Swiss/Foregin citizenship by birth, the enclosure should have the original of birth certificate (Auszug aus dem Geburtregister) and a declaration stating that he/she has acquired the (---name….) nationality by birth and he/she does not hold any other nationality or passport on his/her name. (upload the self-attested copy of passport and birth certificate)

Self-attested copy of parents’ passports / OCI cards and permits. 

The birth certificate is issued by a foreign authority, it is to be Apostilled (or) attested/endorsed by the concerned Indian Mission. 

Registered marriage certificate (Marriage certificate issued in India should have the apostille stamp from the Ministry of External Affairs, India)

Proof of relationship with parent /grandparent /great grandparent , if their Indian origin is claimed as basis for grant of Overseas Citizenship of India. The documents issued from the competent authority, it is to be apostilled or attested/endorsed by the concerned Indian mission.

OCI card is issued normally in 6 to 8 weeks time. Applicants are required to carry OCI Card (endorsed on the OCI Booklet “Life Time Visa”) with current valid foreign passport. The life long “U” Visa sticker process has been discontinued.

OCI card on the basis of spouse’s of Indian origin:

All applications for fresh registration as OCI cardholder from the spouse of foreign origin of a citizen of India or spouse of foreign origin of an OCI cardholder registered under section 7A of the Citizenship Act, 1955 shall be submitted only on the online system. No offline applications shall be accepted.

OCI card can be applied for on the basis of spouse’s of Indian origin provided that their marriage should be registered and they are married for a minimum period of two years.

A  Joint Declaration is to be submitted at the time of application stating that 

We,  ……….(full name)…… and ……(name)………. are married on  (date).  We are living together as husband/wife at …… (address )…………., Switzerland.

In case of separation/ divorce, the OCI card to be issued in favour of Mr./Mrs. --------------------(full name) will be returned to the Embassy for cancellation.

  1. Swiss/Foreign Passport. (upload the self-attested copy)

  2. Original Registered marriage certificate (Auszug aus dem Eheregister) (upload the self-attested copy)

Marriage certificate issued in India should have the apostille stamp from the Ministry of External Affairs, India)

(c) Proof of the Indian national/origin spouse for grant of OCI card. (ie; valid/cancelled Indian passport, foreign passport, OCI card of the spouse and the documents upon which the OCI card was issued to the spouse). (upload the self-attested copy)

The application form along with self-attested document copies have to be submitted to the Embassy for prior verification.

B.  Fees Structure for Registration as OCI

Embassy’s UBS bank account number 235-939899.01P (IBAN: CH82 0023 5235  9398 9901 P).

Each applicant for registration as OCI has to pay a fee of CHF 365.- 

OCI card can be applied on the basis of Spouse Indian origin on payment of the fee of CHF 677.-

Consular surcharge of CHF 2.- (in addition to fees mentioned above) is to be paid in Embassy’s UBS account number 235-939899.02K (IBAN: CH39 0023 5235 9398 9902 K).

Payment receipts, in original, highlighting the applicant’s name and Embassy's account number should be attached with the application. Payment should be routed through above bank account only.

Payment made at cash desk of the Post office will not be accepted. 

The applicant should check the status of the application online by quoting his/her passport number along with online Registration Number. No separate intimation will be sent to the applicant about the status of their application.

When status shows “ Documents received at Bernewith date, please send the following documents to the Embassy:-

(1) Print out of on-line status report

(2) Swiss/Foreign Passport in original 

(3) Self-addressed & stamped registered envelope (CHF 6.30) to return the passport with OCI card.

(4) Old OCI Booklet & Old foreign passport for cancellation and issuance of new OCI booklet. 

Note :

Vide circular No.26011/06/2015-OCI dated 29th January, 2015 of Ministry of Home Affairs, all immigration authorities in India will not insist on production of the foreign passport containing the ‘U’ Visa sticker in the case of OCI cardholders while they enter/ exit India and the immigration clearance will be granted based on production of the ‘OCI Card ONLY’.

In case of issuance of new passport

(a) Up to the completion of 20 years of age, OCI documents have to be re-issued each time a new passport is issued.

(b) Between 21-50 years of age, there is no need to seek re-issuance of OCI documents each time a new passport is issued.

(c) After the completion of 50 years of age, OCI documents have to be re-issued once after issuance of a new passport. However, if the applicant desires he can obtain a new OCI document. 

OCI Miscellaneous Services for registered OCIs:

The OCI Miscellaneous services application form should be filled in online and new passport details are to be given for issuance of new OCI booklet.

All applicants must select the following services together:-

  1. Change of passport particulars and  (b) Change of personal particulars

Applicant should fill all fields in the application form and self-attested copies of the following documents are to be uploaded.

(a) New passport (b) OCI card (photo page & last page details) and (c) copy of ‘U’ visa sticker. (Please send the original Passports and OCI card for verification). The application form along with self-attested document copies have to be submitted to the Embassy.

A copy of Swiss Residence Permit.

In case of change of address should enclose the Residential proof (Wohnsitzbestätigung). 

Fees Structure for Miscellaneous OCI Services:

Embassy’s UBS bank account number 235-939899.01P (IBAN: CH82 0023 5235  9398 9901 P).

In respect of issuance of new passport, the OCI Misc. service, a fee of CHF 35.- is to paid.

In respect of services mentioned below at Sl. Nos. I. II & III, the applicant is required to pay a fee of CHF 35.-. 

In respect of services mentioned below at Sl. No. IV, a fee of CHF 135.- is to be paid.

Consular surcharge of CHF 2.- (in addition to fees mentioned above) is to be paid in Embassy’s UBS account number235-939899.02K (IBAN: CH39 0023 5235 9398 9902 K).

Payment receipts, in original, highlighting the applicant’s name and Embassy's account number should be attached with the application. Payment should be routed through above bank account only.

Payment made at cash desk of the Post office will not be accepted. 

No fee will be charged for the service mentioned below at Sl. Nos. V & VI.

(I)  In case of change of personal particulars, viz. name, nationality, etc. / Filling of wrong personal particulars while submitting online application.

In this case OCI holders may seek re-issuance of OCI documents by availing the services. Documentary evidence for the change of personal particulars is to be enclosed.

(II) In case of change of photograph without the change of the passport, personal interview shall be taken by the Competent Authority before the grant of the service. 

(III) In case of filling of wrong personal particulars while submitting online application viz. name, father’s name, date of birth, etc. 

In case of above OCI holders may seek re-issuance of OCI documents.  Documentary evidence for the correct personal particulars should be enclosed.

(IV) In case of loss/damage of OCI registration certificate/visa.

In case of loss of OCI documents, a copy of the complaint filed with the Police authorities shall be enclosed. Personal interview of the applicant shall be taken by the Competent Authority before the grant of the service.

(V) In case of mistakes committed by the Indian Mission/Post/Office while entering the personal particulars of manually filled applications. (now discontinued) 

(VI) In case of change of address/occupation, new set of OCI documents will not be issued. The applicant may take a print out of the new address/occupation after on-line submission and keep for record purposes. 

C.  Benefits for the Persons registered as OCI on “U” Visa

Special counters at the immigration check posts for speedy clearance.

Lifelong multiple entry visa for any length of stay.

No separate visa will be required for (a) tourism (b) student seeking admission in colleges/institutions (c) business & (d) employment, etc.

Exemption from registration with local FRRO/FRO irrespective of duration of stay in India; and Parity with NRIs in economic, financial and educational fields except in matters relating to acquisition of agricultural/ plantation properties.

D.  Visit to Restricted/Protected Area

The grant of ‘U’ visa does not entitle the visa holder to visit a restricted/protected area. Visits to such areas shall continue to be governed by the instructions in this regard issued from time to time by the Government of India. Prior permission of the competent authority should be obtained for visiting a restricted/protected area.

E.  Undertaking of Missionary work/Mountaineering/Research work Area

The grant of ‘U’ visa does not entitle the visa holder to undertake any missionary work/ mountaineering and research work, without the prior permission of the Government of India in accordance with the instructions issued from time to time.
